Artist Bio

Based in Toronto, Canada, Anthony creates bold, large, portrait-based paintings. Working rapidly in multiple layers and sessions, he creates works that strive to go beyond the literal portrait. His influences include classics like Sargent, Chase and Duveneck along with many contemporary portrait-based painters.

The paintings explore the human condition through the face and its universal expressions, creating an emotional response – one that is personal to each viewer. The works feature bold, expressive brushwork and are abstracted from their original source, most often photographs. Focused primarily on facial features and especially the eyes, the portraits are intimate and engaging — going beyond the realistic, becoming something more, something abstract – yet familiar.

After graduating from the Ontario College of Art (OCAD) as an Editorial Illustrator, Anthony embarked on a long career in the design communication field. The passion to paint was reignited and he has been busy creating new work for show and sale.

Paintings are available for direct purchase or through saatchiart.com
